Poker After Dark TV Show

I’ve been wondering why I only see Poker After Dark re-runs, so I started doing some research. Apparently NBC pulled the plug on their late night tv poker series after the whole “Black Friday” situation on April 15, 2011.

The Poker After Dark TV Show is a new concept by NBC which can be enjoyed six nights a week. At 2.45 AM you can watch exciting tournaments with professional players. The buy-in is big and so are the prizes. This is the kind of entertainment that fits all types of viewers and you don’t really have to be a poker player to enjoy it. While the show is mostly about having fun you will also be able to learn a great deal about professional poker by simply observing the games.

6 Players Play for 6 Days

Each week the Poker After Dark TV Show presents 6 different professional poker players. There are also less professional players around the table. These amateurs are known for other achievements. One example is the popular actor Jason Alexander whom everyone knows as George Costanza in the TV Show Seinfeld. Men and women play together and you get a close up on the personality and skills of each player.

Friends Off and On the Table

Each player in Poker After Dark has to make a buy-in of $20,000. The winner walks away with 120K and all participants are rewarded good parting gifts. This adds to the excitement of the show. Players who are usually very good friends have to face competing for this big amount of money and things start to look different. This is where the competitive natures of the players come forward and interesting interactions and discussions take place.

Close up on Professional Poker

Host of the show is Leann Tweeden and together with her the actions of each player will be followed up closely. From the moment that the decks are shuffled to the very last show down you’ll be able to watch the choices and character of each player. You might find it easy to call the bluffs but remember that watching the games on TV gives a much better overview than what each individual player around the table has. In the very first Poker After Dark we got to see Phil Hellmuth loose his cools in a fashion not unusual for him as a player. He didn’t stay in the game and perhaps he should watch a rerun of the show to work on his poker face tactics.

Learning with the Pros

It is Full Tilt Poker that stands behind the pros of Poker After Dark and they invite everyone to get closer to the players in their poker room. After watching the games you might be tempted to learn more by playing against the players you saw on TV. On Full Tilt Poker’s site this is possible and you can even chat with the individual players. You can also get closer to the table through the forum on the Poker After Dark web site. In this forum you can discuss the games and add your opinion about them. You can suggest players for the show as well as give your favorite participants some extra support.
